Blog now moved to a new site

My blog now moved to a new site:

www.hugoswoodshop.com

I decided to move before I got too settled and thought I would have more growth potential as I intend to open a online store in the future.

Most of this data has been posted to the new site plus additional posts.

Hope you visit

Managed to do a bit of woodturning over the weekend:

Turned these only using a roughing gouge; a bit of practice before the pine below.

First time I tried the sierra pen blank.

What happens with blunt tools and delicate blanks!

Engine for my train entry in this years plank competition, quite pleased with the result. Had to use a few more tools though, realized I have a lot of sharpening to do soon.

I still need to add stickers to finish it.

Bench-top vice - top recessed for palm router

Tissue boxes - some with hidden jewelry boxes undernrath

Shire Woodworking Club - 2016 Plank Competition.

I have entered this competition for a number of years without winning any prizes; although I have been advised that if the items had been finished I would have performed better. I seem to run out of time every year as I have a habit of changing my mind over what I going to make.

I have to have my project finished by 10th September 2016.

Sydney Working with Wood Show

Visited the show for a long lunch on Friday and managed to limit my purchases:

Looking to get back into turning so bought some pen parts, blanks and new Micro-Mesh Micro Finishing System Pack.  The butt chisel is Narex and looks promising for small trimming without cutting my hand.

The show was OK with a good selection of timber available but I don't have a lot of space so resisted.

Why Hugo's Woodshop?

All decent options with Gary were taken by websites so i had to look for something else!

Hugo is our 3 year old Ragdoll cat who is very nosy and likes investigating the garage / workshop:

Introduction

I am an accountant who uses woodwork as a way to escape computers. I work in the back half of a tandem garage under the house; effectively a basement.

I am a member of the Shire Woodworking Club based in Sydney Australia.

I recently completed some toys for the Sydney Children's Hospital; they require them unfinished so the children can finish them as part of their therapy.
